Courtney is one of the most prominent American, country-folk and country-gospel artists of the last three decades, in which she has developed a career of unstoppable rising tone. Hers "game changer", the album that made her explode, was her penultimate, "May Your Kindness Remain" (2018), for which she received numerous compliments as superlative as they were accurate; precisely for that.
Two examples: "She is a great country singer who arrives with a gospel groove, standing halfway between Dolly Parton and Whitney Houston" (NME), "Courtney was born to be a troubadour" (The Line Of Best Fit). In 'Rolling Stone' and 'Stereogum' she has been compared to Joni Mitchell. In 'American Songwriter' they wrote that she is "the best songwriter you've never heard of."
Elton John, Ryan Adams, and actor Chris Pratt all expressed her admiration for her. And Robert Plant said that he wanted to collaborate with her the first time he saw her live (in fact, they shared the stage in London in February 2018, at the UK Americana Awards ceremony). In 2018 she was also nominated for the "Emerging Artist Of The Year" award at the Americana Music Honors & Awards.
At the age of 30 in November 2020, Courtney started her career at 16. She at 20 was a backup singer on five of the songs on the Jimmy Eat World album “Invented”. The following year she played electric guitar in the band of her admired Damien Jurado. She then had two albums, her debut, "Urban Myths" (2008), and the second "Painters Hands And A Seventh Son" (2009). But it was the fifth, "Honest Life" (2016), that gave it the final push: record of the year for 'The Bluegrass Situation', one of the Top 40 country albums for 'Rolling Stone' (in addition to naming it one of the “ten country artists you should know”).
More milestones: She reached # 1 on the Official UK Americana Chart and the Independent Album Breakers Chart. She also received five stars out of five in the review of 'The Daily Telegraph' ("an absolute and perfect little gem," they wrote). Etc. All of this has even been surpassed by her last two works. The penultimate, "May Your Kindness Remain" (2018), his sixth LP, has generated the type of phrases cited in the previous paragraph and others such as the following: "A strange mixture of power and feeling that makes you kneel" (Paste Magazine), “An album like this can be a refuge” (Stereogum). For its part, the seventh, "Old Flowers" (2020), nominated at the Grammy in the category of "Best American Album", has caused it to be written about her that she has "a voice like Linda Ronstadt's and a talent for writing like Joni Mitchell's, there's just nothing not to enjoy on this album "(Mojo).
Finally, to say that in December 2020 Courtney has contributed a version of "America" by Simon & Garfunkel (with the collaboration of Liz Cooper and Molly Sarlé) to the charity compilation "Good Music To Avert The Collapse Of American Democracy Vol.2 ".
