Ufomammut, an Italian band known for their heavy, hypnotic soundscapes, emerged as one of the most influential acts in doom and psychedelic sludge metal. Formed in 1999 in Tortona, Italy, by Poia (guitar), Urlo (bass, vocals, and synth), and Vita (drums), Ufomammut’s music is defined by dense, droning riffs, otherworldly atmospheres, and a blend of stoner rock, doom metal, and psychedelia. Their name, a fusion of "UFO" and "mammoth," captures the essence of their music: colossal, extraterrestrial, and profoundly immersive.

Their debut album, Godlike Snake, released in 2000, introduced their unique sound, but it was their later albums, like Snailking (2004) and Eve (2010), that solidified Ufomammut's reputation in the underground music scene. Eve, a single, unbroken 45-minute track, showcased their ability to merge narrative depth with crushing heaviness, earning them critical acclaim and a cult following. Their music often explores themes of space, mythology, and existentialism, making their live performances as much a sonic experience as a spiritual journey.

A defining feature of Ufomammut’s work is their visual artistry. The band’s visuals are created by Malleus Rock Art Lab, an art collective founded by Poia and Urlo, who design their album covers and concert posters. These psychedelic visuals complement their music, transforming concerts into immersive multimedia experiences.

With albums like Oro: Opus Primum and Oro: Opus Alter (both 2012), Ufomammut continued to push boundaries, experimenting with longer, more complex compositions. Their 2015 album, Ecate, and 2017’s 8 display their ongoing evolution, blending brutal heaviness with haunting ambiance.

Over two decades, Ufomammut has toured extensively across Europe and North America, building a reputation for intense, atmospheric shows.
