Biography

Serious Black is a multinational power metal band formed in 2014 by members from various prominent metal acts. The group was initially conceived as a supergroup, featuring musicians from bands like Blind Guardian, Helloween, and Tad Morose. The founding members included bassist Mario Lochert (ex-Visions of Atlantis), guitarist Roland Grapow (ex-Helloween), drummer Thomen Stauch (ex-Blind Guardian), guitarist Dominik Sebastian (Edenbridge), keyboardist Jan Vacik (ex-Dreamscape), and vocalist Urban Breed (ex-Tad Morose). The band's formation brought together a wealth of experience from across the power metal genre.

Serious Black's debut album, As Daylight Breaks, was released in 2015 through AFM Records. The album was well-received by fans and critics, praised for its blend of melodic hooks, power metal riffs, and dynamic vocal performance from Urban Breed. Tracks like “I Seek No Other Life” and “High and Low” became popular, solidifying Serious Black’s place in the power metal scene right from the start.

The band quickly followed up with their second album, Mirrorworld, in 2016, further expanding their sound and fanbase. However, during this period, the lineup underwent changes, with Roland Grapow and Thomen Stauch departing the group. Despite these shifts, Serious Black maintained momentum, continuing to tour and release new music.

In 2017, the band released Magic, a concept album that was well-received for its ambitious storytelling and intricate musical arrangements. Subsequent releases like Suite 226 (2020) have kept Serious Black in the spotlight, cementing their reputation as a force in modern power metal. Their sound combines traditional power metal elements with a modern touch, characterized by melodic songwriting, powerful vocals, and high-energy performances.
