Biography
Montesco is a Barcelona-based band formed in 2021, consisting of Helena Moreno (vocals and guitar), Patricia Huguet (keyboards), Laura S Nuñez (bass), and Jorge Gandara (drums). The group’s name references the character Romeo Montesco from Shakespeare’s iconic play "Romeo and Juliet," a nod to their thematic focus on love, with all its highs and lows.
Musically, Montesco operates within the realm of alternative pop, incorporating elements of electronic music, psychedelia, and dream-pop. Their live performances blend organic instruments with synthesizers and electronic beats, creating an atmosphere that is both dark and melancholic. This distinct sound, often conveyed through a neutral or bittersweet lens, is a signature of their songwriting style.
Montesco debuted in 2022 with the EP Gardenias, which garnered significant attention, earning over 125,000 listens and appearing on lists such as "Todo Indie: Lo Mejor de 2022." Their music continues to evolve, and in 2024 they released their first full-length album Sol de Medianoche. The album expands on their electronic and psychedelic roots, reflecting on the complexities of post-modern relationships in urban settings.
