The Candlemass concert at the Rock Fest BCN was one of the most 'special' concerts of the Santa Coloma de Gramenet festival, near Barcelona. And it was special, in the first place, because the group led by Leif Edling and his hat -of present body, not like the group's performance in the same festival in 2016, absent for health reasons- does not tour venues, he only performs at festivals and, secondly, because the atmosphere they achieve during their concerts is unique, a mixture of hopelessness and force hard to describe, the doom must be felt.

During the afternoon of Friday, July 5, they performed in the festival tent, crowded with a sweaty audience, one of the pillars of the doom metal presenting a new album, 'The Door to Doom', with its original singer, Johan Langquist - replacing to Mats Levén-, author of the voices of the cornerstone of the genre, the stentorian title disc 'Epicus Doomicus Metallicus'. A jewel of heavy metal that is not sufficiently valued that Johan recorded more than 30 years ago. In fact, when the singer presented one of these songs he said "this song is 32 years old" and he put his hands to his face seeing that the songs probably had more years than many of the people attending the concert.

However, Johan had a major challenge, interpreting the 'operistic' passages recorded by the next singer of Candlemass and probably the most charismatic, Messiah Marcolin, in some of the most famous songs of the band. The singer faced the pulse adapting the songs to his voice, without trying  to copy Messiah, turning the themes into something flatter. This does not mean that they were boring, he simply adapted them to his voice giving them a new look, trying to imitate Messiah is a recklessness.

The set list of the concert was centered in its classics, the typical repertoire of festivals, with the exception of 'Astorolus - The Great Octopus' and 'Black Trinity' of its last disc. Sounded the majestics 'Solitude', 'Mirror Mirror', 'Bewitched', 'Dark Are The Veils of Death', 'Dark Reflections' ... Incredible feeling.

The band consists of Johan Längquist (vocals), Mats "Mappe" Björkman (guitar), Lars "Lasse" Johansson (guitar), Leif Edling (bass) and Jan Lindh (drums).
