The Liceu Opera Theater has performed on June 22, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. as strange as the times marked by the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. The Barcelona coliseum has released Concert for the Biocene, the work of the artist Eugenio Ampudia and curated by Blanca de la Torre, which has been seen via streaming on the YouTube platform but not in the theatre itself despite having available half of its capacity, according to the post-confinement regulations.

However, the Rambla seats have not remained empty but have been made available to a very peculiar public, 2,292 plants of different types that after the function will be given to the health workers of the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona. In this concert-performance, the Puccini's 'Crisantemi' has been performed by the string quartet UceLi Quartet (Yana Tsanova, violin; Oleg Shport, violin; Claire Bobij, viola and Guillaume Terrail, cello), with a duration of less than 20 minutes and of a nostalgic nature with some epic brief moment.

The images of the Liceu invaded by the vegetal kingdom, so dystopian, have spread like wildfire in all the major international media such as the New York Times, Le Monde and other well-known names in the world press. During the performance seen by streaming, not for humans but for one's house plants, according to Ampudia, the notices to the attendees have not been avoided: the prohibition to take photographs and the warning against mobile phones, perhaps ironically, as if the plants were going to be a rude public that coughs and play with the plastic paper of a candy during the concert. You never know, last night it was broadcasted on television the second part of the Lord of the Rings and everyone already knows how rude can be pines and Ents.

It is, in short, an artistic work that has passed as a visual poem, with evident ecological overtones in which plants are treated at the same level as humans and that marks a change of era, the ninety days of human history in which almost everyone around the world has stayed at home. A few days in which the biosphere has taken advantage, briefly, from the pressure of humans and their anthropocene. The Liceu will continue to dialogue with other visual arts during the 2020-21 season.
