Alexi Laiho, Children of Bodom's frontman, dies just 41 years old

Napalm Records and social media profiles of Alexi Laiho -image, RockFest 2019 Barcelona-, guitarist and singer of the group Children of Bodom, just announced his death last week at the age of 41 at his home in Helsinki. The cause of death has not been specified, although the statement points to an illness that the musician had suffered in recent years.

“We feel crushed by the sudden death of our dear friend and band member,” say Alexi’s bandmates Bodom After Midnight, Daniel Freyberg, Mitja Toivonen and Waltteri Väyrynen. "Words cannot describe this shock and the deep sadness we feel."

Laiho had recently finished the first album of his new group Bodom After Midnight, after in 2019 the group Children of Bodom dissolved when three of its members left the band: Jaska Raatikainen (drums), Henri Seppälä (bassist) and Janne Wirman (keyboards). Then the components legally fought over the name Children of Bodom and Laiho lost.

Children of Bodom, founded by Laiho and Raatikainen in 1993, was one of the most successful metal bands in Finland. Laiho's performances were famous for their intensity and the group's second album, ‘Hatebreeder’, catapulted them to fame. In addition to Children of Bodom, Laiho also participated in the groups Warmen, Sinergy - where sang his girlfriend -, Kylähullut and The Local Band.
