Juliette Greco, icon of the French ‘chanson’, dies

Juliette Greco (Montpellier, February 7, 1927) died this Tuesday at the age of 93 at her house in Ramatuelle, on the French Côte d'Azur, surrounded by her dearest people, according to a statement from her family to the France-Press agency.

The singer was a muse of the existentialist current of thought, she was friends with Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus, in Saint-Germain-des-Prés (Paris) after the Second World War. However, she is best known for being an icon of the French 'chanson'. Her deep-pitched voice released songs by Jacques Brel, Serge Gainsbourg and Charles Trenet. She also sang music poems by the poet Boris Vian.
