Peter Green, Fleetwood Mac co-founder, dies

Peter Green, Fleetwood Mac co-founder, dies

Peter Green (London, 1946), real name Peter Allen Greenbaum, co-founder of the Fleetwood Mac group in 1967 and giving it his name, has died at the age of 73 in his sleep as family legal representatives announced in a statement.

He was the creator of the original sound of the group, a mixture of blues, rock and surf, far from the later characteristic soft rock of the band. A sound that can be listen at some of his most memorable songs like 'Albatross', 'Black Magic Woman' - later a hit for Santana-, 'Man of the World' or 'The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)' - with a great cover by the Judas Priest.

Although Green was one of the founders of the group that also included drummer Mick Fleetwood, guitarist Jeremy Spencer and bassist John McVic, he left shortly after, in 1970, suffering from mental ailments, being diagnosed with schizophrenia, as drugs such as LSD amplified, and electroshocked in the 1970s.

Previously, in 1965, he joined the John Mayall Bluesbreakers as a guitarist, occupying the position that Eric Clapton had released. In later years he would collaborate with B.B. King, The Gas, Dave Kelly or Richard Kerr or create Peter Green Splinter Group accompanied by old friends.
