Sónar cancels the 2020 edition by coronavirus

It seemed difficult to worsen an edition of Sónar after the festival suffered its “annus horribilis” in 2019 due to a strike by workers at the Barcelona fair that almost forced the cancellation of the electronic music event, the arrest of the head of the line-up A$AP Rocky in Sweden and even a fine for using animals, horse and owl, by Cecilio G. Well, as they say today, "hold my beer".

Sónar has announced that it is cancelling the 2020 edition in Barcelona and L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, scheduled for 18 to 20 June, due to the coronavirus pandemic that bans large masses of people, to take health precautions, and Sónar gathers more than 100.000 people. The Chemical Brothers, Arca, The Black Madonna, Richie Hawtin were to perform in this edition ... However, it has already announced the dates for Sónar 2021 in Barcelona: from 17 to 19 June.

This great music event also has a large professional fair, called Sónar + D, which has rescheduled its dates for September 18 and 19 at the CCCB in Barcelona, ​​where it was born in 1994, in an extraordinary edition, interspersed with art and technology. However, organizers have noted that it will be an event for the most part online and could only host audiences based on the development of regulations on the capacity of public spaces.

The festival has been cancelled before the Spanish Government takes a decision on the possibility of cancelling all festivals, a decision that awaits the whole sector and other macrofestivals still uncancelled such as Mad Cool or Primavera Sound, due of the high costs involved in cancelling one of these events to the promoter. The words that government promoters want to hear are "by force majeure".
