Jazzing, a popular festival of Jazz in Sant Andreu

Commerce Square in Barcelona district of Sant Andreu at noon Tuesday September 8th, 2015 has been the place & time chosen to present in the neighborhood the second edition of Jazzing, a festival dedicated to Jazz organized by the association Sant Andreu Jazz Band that commands Juan Chamorro with his bass and his hat.

The aim of the festival is to promote jazz among all audiences with local musicians and foreigners of proven solvency and 'break the notion that jazz is for minorities' as the festival says in its program. The Jazzing is considered a popular festival with a majority of free and street performances.

During the presentation speech of the festival, both Chamorro as the artistic director of the Jamboree, Pere Pons, have pointed out that music is a value for citizens, makes us more human and criticized the damage done by 21% cultural VAT to this sector ensuring that "music is not a luxury."

The Sant Andreu Jazz Band, which this year celebrates 10 years, is a place where teenagers, from 7 to 20, may be formed as jazz musicians by Joan Chamorro and where values ​​have come as Andrea Motis - that enchanted everyone a few years ago recording her first album with 15 years, Eva Fernandez -now ex-San Andrés, touring with Eva Fernandez Group-, Rita Payés or Magalí Datzira among many other young musicians like Alba Armengou. Already released five albums which beginning with ‘Joan Chamorro presents’... you can listen to all these young voices.

This year the festival is officially held from 24th to 27th September 2015 although there are different concerts, open rehearsals and jam sessions for free in the neighborhood from the 18th of September. Let us not forget that the Sant Andreu Jazz Band will be playing at the Avenue of the Cathedral during the Feast of Mercè.

The opening concert will be held on Thursday, September 24th at SAT (Sant Andreu Teatre) with Motis Chamorro Big Band. After six years of travel together, the two are presented with renowned musicians like Ignasi Terraza, David Mengual, David Pastor or Fredrik Carlquist including a big band format.

On Saturday 26th September, at SAT, Ernesto Aurignac Orchestra presents 'One' where jazz, classical music, cinema and flamenco shake hands.

The following noon, in the Masadas Square, Barcelona Gospel Messengers by Ramon Escalé acts with funk, pop and R & B in a optimistic way. The same day will be the closing concert of the festival at SAT, with the Sant Andreu Jazz Band and friends as Ernesto Aurignac, John Allred and veteran Jose Maria Farràs.

And that's it? Not at all! On a schedule that you can see below will play groups and artists like Julio Aymí Trio, Alba's Group, Victor de Diego Trio, jam session with Luigi Grasso and David Mitchell Trio, Young Cats, John Allred & friends, morning swing with Magalí Datzira, Celeste alias and other musicians, Rita Payés Quartet or Mayte Alguacil Quintet. There will also be other activities as several master class, open rehearsals or a parade with different jazz groups.
