Music Festival madness during the Barcelona's July

Music Festival madness during the Barcelona

Traditionally the activity of musical festivals reaches its climax during the month of July. This is the perfect time for the multi-day open-air macroevents: attendees near the desired vacation exodus, in the hottest part of the year. However, this year in Barcelona and surroundings the program of macro concerts and festivals seems to have gone mad. It may seem an exaggeration but after reading the following list it will surely seem less:

During the first weekend of July, from 5 to 7, will take place the Cruïlla Barcelona (Black Eyed Peas, Kylie Minogue, Foals, Bastille, Zaz, Garbage), the Vida Festival (in Vilanova i la Geltrú, with Madness , Hot Chip, Beirut, Sleaford Mods, Sharon Van Etten, Todd Terje, Temples), Rock Fest BCN (in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, with Deff Leppard, ZZ Top, King Diamond, Arch Enemy, Testament) and Canet Rock ( sold out, with La Petagina, Els Catarres, La Casa Azul, Els Pets).

On the second weekend, from July 12 to 14, are scheduled the Doctor Music Festival (Montmeló?, with Rosalia, King Crimson, The Strokes, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Chemical Brothers, The Cat Empire, Christine and The Queens, Behemoth) and BBF Barcelona Beach Festival (David Guetta, Armin Van Buuren, Steve Aoki, Dj Snake, Don Diablo).

In the third week-end, from July 19 to 21, is planned Sónar (A$AP Rocky, Bad Bunny, Underworld, Actress, Amelie Lens, Erol Alkan, Floating Points, Masego, Maya Jane Coles, Matthew Herbert) and all events of electronic music ad hoc that turn Barcelona into the world capital of this musical genre during this weekend, the Offsónar (Poble Espanyol, Innervisions, Amelie Lens) and the Razzmatazz sessions.

And in the last week-end, from July 26 to 28, will take place the Reggaeton Beach Festival (Farruko, Karol G, Juan Magan, Rels B, Justin Quiles, Bryant Myers) and Tomorrowland (in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, with Steve Aoki, Quintino, Yves V, Galantis).

To the festivals of classic style, with several stages and duration of one, three or four days, we must add the cycles of concerts that take place in Barcelona and around: Festival Jardins de Pedralbes (Kraftwerk, Joss Stone, Il Divo, The Chieftains, Gilberto Gil, Juanes, The Beach Boys), the Grec Festival (Loreena McKennitt), Guitar BCN (Toto) and, about 100 kilometers away, the festivals of the Costa Brava: Cap Roig (Liam Gallagher, Sting, Maluma, Nile Rodgers, Diana Krall, Ben Harper), Porta Ferrada (Ólafur Arnalds) and Peralada (Charlotte Gainsbourg). Following the coast in a southerly direction are also the Cambrils Festival and the Jardins Terramar Festival (in Sitges, with Joan Baez, Georges Benson). Wisely, the concerts of stadiums and pavilions of Metallica, Rammstein or Eddie Vedder will be held in May and June.

One wonders if all these events, an economic engine for the Catalan economy, could survive without the constant, and often annoying, flow of mass tourism that attracts Barcelona and its surroundings.
