Week for Freedom of Speech 'No Callarem', in The Modelo prison in Barcelona: Valtonyc, Pablo Hasel, Elgio (La Insurgencia)...

Week for Freedom of Speech 'No Callarem', in The Modelo prison in Barcelona: Valtonyc, Pablo Hasel, Elgio (La Insurgencia)...

Faced with the wave of spanish state repression against freedom of speech that has materialized in prison sentences to hip hop singers like Valtonyc, Elgio or Pablo Hasel, the collective No Callarem has scheduled a series of activities at the Barcelona Modelo prison under the title Week for Freedom of Speech.

From the 9th to the 15th of April there will be many activities throughout the territory -like in the Vic's Jazz Cava (60 km north of Barcelona) on Thursday, April 12th with Núria Graham, La iaia...- but those that probably gather a larger audience will be those that there will take place from Wednesday 11 to Sunday 15 April at La Modelo prison. No Callarem organized last year, on May 21 in the Gran Sol of Badalona -close to Barcelona-, a concert in favor of the people like tweeters or singers prosecuted by the spanish National Court attended by some 5,000 people.

The week has started bluntly with the video clip 'The Bourbons -name of the Spanish Royal Family- are thieves', shot in the same prison, and in which numerous hip-hop artists have participated - and other styles - such as Frank T, Sara Hebe, Rapsusklei, Clara Peya, Elphomega, Machete en Boca, Homes i Dones Llúdriga, La Raíz, Ira, Los Chikos del Maiz, Tribade, Def Con Dos, Noult, ZOO, Juan Pablo Balcázar, Antonio Torres, Roger Martinez, Dj Enzo, Rebelmadiaq Sound System ... in about 24 hours the video clip is approaching one million views on YouTube.

In this space of Barcelona, a paradigm of repression during the Franco era - now without prisoners - will held concerts, activities, poetry, popular rice, fairs and round tables in addition to many activities. All free entry although the capacity is limited.

In a moment of involution of rights and civil liberties where repression affects the institutional, informative, social and cultural agenda, and also in the lives of more and more well-known and anonymous people, from Òmnium Cultural we propose a space for debate where we can listen to the voices of people who live repression up close and of people who follow us attentively from other European countries. Coordinates: Òmnium Cultural. 18:00 Roundtable "Gutenberg gagged, censorship and repression in literature and the press". Since the invention of the printing press as a democratizing tool of knowledge, the powers, the bourgeoisie, the Church or the State have tried to stop through censorship the expansion of new ideas that undermine the status quo. Before this editorials, printing presses, graphic press and other types of publications have been key elements in the trench of the free expression of ideas. Some of the protagonists of this fight against censorship will participate in this table. Coordinated by: Laura Arau (Editorial Tigres de Papel - Feria Literal), Fernando Paniagua (Festival BccN - Popular Athenaeum of 9 Barris - No Callarem). Participants: Mayte Quilez (former director of El Jueves) Jon Jimenez Martinez (editor of Txalaparta), Martxelo Otamendi (former director of Egunkaria and current director of Berria), Adelais de Pedrolo (daughter of the most censored Catalan author in life, Manuel de Pedrolo ), Carmen Arenas (president of Catalan PEN). Moderator: Laia Altarriba (director of Diario Jornada).
19:30 Screening of 'Freedom of printing' and cinefórum. In 2007, a judge decides no allow the publication of the satirical publication El Jueves. In 2014, RBA removed a cover of the same magazine. In both cases, the motive is the ironic representation of the members of the Spanish Royal Family. These two events have delineated how censorship is part of the editorial policies of many of the media in this country. The objective of the documentary titled 'Freedom of Print' is to address the uselessness of censorship as a tool to align a critical society, as well as to treat the issue of creative freedom as a right of the professionals of graphic humor.
At the end of the documentary a film forum will be opened with the participation of: Fernando Muñoz (director of the documentary) and Pere Rusiñol (member of the Mongolia magazine team). Collaborate Kolectivo for Sound Self-Management (KAS).
Between 17 and 19h, designers, tattoo artists, illustrators and writers of Graft will paint their exclusive works under the slogan #ExpressatPerLaLlibertat in the Modelo courtyard. These pieces will then be auctioned to contribute to the economic fund for the persons indicted.
