The Barcelona’s Rocksound venue will close definitively on October 4

The Rocksound venue has succumbed to a perfect storm, a double tsunami formed by the Covid-19 and the urban plans of the city of Barcelona. On October 4, the room on 116 Almogàvers Street will be closed for ever, after being closed for months due to the sanitary measures against the pandemic, to be demolished and an office building built. The old Poblenou of rock and punk bars is being swallowed up by the Barcelona of office skyscrapers, hipster shops and startups.

It was an announced death, one of the managers of the room, Antonio Celeiro, already knew that the room would be demolished when he rented it, twelve years ago now. To say goodbye to their audience, there will be three farewell concerts: Avern and Tort (October 2), Santacreu (October 3) and Los Mambo Jambo (October 4, in vermouth session).

The Rocksound room, despite its modest size - it has a capacity of about 70 people - has been a benchmark for rock in Barcelona, Spain and, surprisingly, in the USA. And in this room not only have performed groups of furious guitars but is well known among country-rock artists like Daniel Romano, Eileen Jewel, Johnny Kaplan and Malcolm Holcombe, musicians who have risen to their low stage, around two palms high.

Alongside a mammoth such as the Razzmatazz Hall, Rocksound has hosted about 3,000 concerts during its lifetime, averaging more than 200 music events a year. A real gem for lovers of underground rock, stoner, blues, country, heavy metal...

The organization of the Rocksound, in a farewell message on its Facebook page, say they will return although most likely it will not be soon due to the coronavirus pandemic that is shaking, and falling, in the sector of the live music from all over the planet.
