Sonar 2017 Schedules

As every year in mid-June, Barcelona and Hospitalet de Llobregat begin to unroll thousands of square meters of green carpet, the iconic color of Sonar, electronic music festival par excellence and longevity.

The event will begin on Wednesday 14 and will end on Sunday 18 June. However, the strongest days -and nights- will be Friday and Saturday.

The major Sonar 2017 interests are Justice, Soulwax, De La Soul, Anderson .Paak or Nicolas Jaar. And yes, also acts Björk but it should be pointed that she will do it in a exclusive way. The Björk Dj Sessions Björk, a dj set of four hours, is suitable for just a few thousands of people -the capacity of SonarHall- that needs an special accreditation to enter the venue. The sesión is oriented to get to know electronic music Björk influences rather than dance. This will be the Sonar opening act, no more massive act thursday night at Feria in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat.

A novelty of this edition is the creation of a new scenario in the Sonar by Day, called SonarXS, which is suposed to meet the most current 'spanish street sound' -mostly trap- and emergent.

In this attempt of Sonar to find some 'street credentials' squeak a couple of things: artists who act in this scenario are right now enough known to call them 'emergent' -Bejo, Bad Gyal, Yung Beef, BSN Posse or Dellafuente & Maka- and others like C. Tangana or Kinder Malo & Pimp Flaco acts in a different stage.

The ones who have visited Sonar in several ocassions will see lots of knows names in the billing festival: Daito Manabe, Nina Kraviz, Forest Swords, Arca, Jon Hopkins, Moderat, Vitalic, Carl Craig... In a year in which the Primavera Sound -the other big festival in Barcelona- has doubled its space dedicated to electronic music, Primavera Bits, using the same green carpet as a distinctive symbol.

Exhibitions and Conferences

Sonar has growth this 2017 with five exhibition in Barcelona. The CCCB with the exhibition 'Björk Digital', the Museo del Diseño 'David Bowie Is', the Santa Monica Arts dedicated to Brian Eno or 'Black Out' in Virreina.

Björk also will give a lecture on the Sonar+D, professional section of the festival, in addition to others well known people. This Sonar section already have 5,000 people accreditated.

Festival visitors will have a new form of transport between the Sonar by Day and Sonar -Making of Montjuïc de Noche -Make in Hospitalet de Llobregat with Metro Line 9. Apparently, this year there would not be subway strike.

Spain is right now in Alert 4 due to terrorism, for this reason the queues to enter the venue will be possibly longer than other years due to exhaustive control input.

And one last rhetoric question before the performing schedules... Where is Ritchie Hawtin?
