The ‘Barcelona, we’ll get out of it’ festival is finally cancelled

Ada Colau, mayor of Barcelona, ​​has announced through her Facebook account that the festival 'Barcelona, ​​we will get out of it' is finally "not going to happen", adding that this decision has been taken after criticism from the cultural sector that has declined to participate (Sopa de Cabra, Els Catarres, Suu, Lildami, Txarango, Stay Homa, Koers or Clara Peya) in an event budgeted at 200,000 euros while the city is experiencing a state of health emergency by coronavirus. The artists were going to receive, according to Txarango group, 1,500 euros.

Following the controversy, the City Council had announced that the producers of the event (El Terrat and Mediapro) to be held on balconies and rooftops of the city would be responsible for the expenses, at no cost to the council but "valuing the discomfort generated, the organizers decided to cancel."

The event was to be broadcast on May 9 on TV3 and BTV as a tribute to the victims of the coronavirus and in gratitude for the efforts of the confined population for weeks. There were going also to perform Joan Manuel Serrat, Silvia Pérez Cruz, Amaia, Antonio Orozco, Leiva, Coque Malla...
