The flamenco festival in Barcelona will take place from May 16 to 31 in various venues: L'Auditori, Barts, Luz de Gas and Taller de Músics. There also will perform Chicuelo, Antonio Lizana, Pere Martinez, Antonio Rey and the legendary dancer La Chana will return to the scene.
The Festival Ciutat Flamenco de Barcelona returns with an impressive poster headed by figures like one of the best ‘cantaores’ (flamenco singers) in the country, Miguel Poveda -performing several flamenco styles-, the cantaoras Rocío Márquez -presenting 'Visto en El Jueves', with great covers of flamenco artists- and María Terremoto -presenting 'La huella de mi sentío'- or the guitarist Chicuelo presenting' Uña y carne '.
In the event that will take place from May 16 to 31, the saxophonist Antonio Lizana will also perform - a mix of flamenco, jazz and world music, presenting his last three albums in the show 'From Cádiz to New York' -, the cantaor Pere Martínez - flamenco classics -, guitarist Antonio Rey - flamenco tradition, jazz and African music, presenting 'Dos partes de mi'- or the show 'Bailaoras. El Nuevo Tiempo' with flamenco dancers Carmen La Talegona, Lucía La Piñona, María Moreno, Mercedes de Córdoba, Rosario Toledo and, as a guest artist, the mythical La Chana.
On the 40th anniversary of Taller de Músics, the music school that promotes the festival, pianist Lluís Vidal will revisit the 'Suite Iberia' by Manuel de Falla with a big band at L'Auditori.
As a novelty in this 26th edition, the festival will hold its first Congress of Flamenco and Pedagogy with workshops, conferences and exhibitions and the collaboration of Tablao Flamenco Cordobés in La Rambla of Barcelona.
