Biography

The Black Halos are a Canadian punk rock band that emerged from Vancouver’s gritty music scene in 1994. Known for their raw energy, rebellious spirit, and a sound that draws heavily from '70s punk and glam rock influences, The Black Halos quickly established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the punk underground. The band was founded by frontman Billy Hopeless, whose wild stage presence and distinctive raspy vocals became key elements of their identity, alongside guitarist Rich Jones.

The group’s debut self-titled album, released in 1999, introduced their infectious blend of punk attitude and rock 'n' roll swagger. Songs like "Shooting Stars" and "Some Things Never Fall" highlighted their ability to combine gritty guitar riffs with anthemic choruses, earning them comparisons to bands like The Stooges and New York Dolls. Their follow-up album, The Violent Years (2001), solidified their reputation, with tracks such as "No Tomorrow Girls" and "Jane Doe" becoming fan favorites and punk anthems.

Despite gaining a cult following, the band faced numerous setbacks, including lineup changes and record label issues. After a brief hiatus in 2008, The Black Halos made a triumphant return in 2016, with Billy Hopeless reuniting with Rich Jones and other new members. This reunion rekindled their signature sound, featuring high-octane rock riffs and punk flair.

In 2022, The Black Halos released How the Darkness Doubled, their first album in over a decade, proving they hadn’t lost their edge. With relentless touring and a dedication to keeping punk rock alive, The Black Halos continue to inspire a new generation of fans with their uncompromising style and undying passion for the music that made them underground legends.
