Biography
Esteban Mateus Williamson, known professionally as Esteman, is a Colombian singer and songwriter born on May 4, 1984, in Bogotá. With Scottish ancestry, Esteman’s unique musical and artistic style blends pop, alternative, and Latin rhythms, marked by a theatrical flair that has defined his career. His breakthrough came with the viral success of his 2010 single No te metas a mi Facebook, an upbeat, satirical track that quickly gained over a million views on YouTube and introduced Esteman as a rising voice in Colombia’s music scene.
His debut album, 1er Acto (2012), featured collaborations with Colombian icon Andrea Echeverri. His second album, Caótica Belleza (2015), expanded his musical palette by featuring prominent Latin American artists like Natalia LaFourcade and Carla Morrison, blending reggae, disco, and traditional Colombian sounds. His diverse musical influences and vibrant style earned him recognition at the 2016 Latin Grammy Awards, where he was nominated for Best New Artist and his album Caótica Belleza was shortlisted for Best Alternative Music Album.
In 2019, Esteman released his third album, Amor Libre, a deeply personal project that explored themes of love, identity, and acceptance. Through this work, he embraced his LGBTQ+ identity, openly expressing his experiences to challenge social norms and foster inclusivity. His 2021 album, Si Volviera a Nacer, continued this exploration, featuring collaborations with artists like Miranda! and Lila Downs.
Esteman’s performances, often with his backing band “La Esteband,” are known for their energetic, theatrical style, incorporating vintage costumes and choreography that reflect his background in art from Universidad de los Andes.
