Biography
Enjambre is a rock band originally from Fresnillo, Zacatecas, Mexico, though it was founded in Santa Ana, California, in 2001. The band's formation traces back to brothers Luis Humberto and Rafael Navejas Díaz, who initially created a project called Los Cuatro Fantásticos in 1996 before evolving into Enjambre upon relocating to the United States. Their cousin, Romeo Navejas, was part of the original lineup but left the group in 2002, leading to the addition of Nico Saavedra on drums and Osamu Nishitani on guitar.
Early Career and Consuelo en Domingo
In 2004, Enjambre signed with Oso Records and released their debut album, Consuelo en Domingo. The album, characterized by experimental and progressive rock influences, gained some recognition despite modest sales, earning the band a nomination for the Premios Lo Nuestro in 2006. However, creative differences led to the departure of Saavedra and Nishitani, prompting the Navejas brothers to return to Mexico and reassemble the band.
El Segundo Es Felino and Rise to Fame
By 2007, Enjambre had a new lineup, including Ángel Sánchez on drums, Javier Mejía on guitar, and the youngest Navejas brother, Julián, on keyboards. That year, they released the EP Manía Cardíaca, followed by the album El Segundo Es Felino in 2008, which gained significant popularity. The album featured collaborations with artists like Denise Gutiérrez of Hello Seahorse! and included tracks like "Manía Cardíaca" and "Impacto," solidifying the band's presence in the Mexican indie rock scene.
Breakthrough with Daltónico
In 2010, Enjambre released their third album, Daltónico, under EMI, marking a turning point in their career. The album's singles "Dulce Soledad" and "Visita" propelled them to the top of the Mexican rock-pop charts, leading to a successful tour across Mexico and the United States.
Continued Success and Evolution
The band's fourth album, Enjambre y los Huéspedes del Orbe (2012), continued their success, with songs like "Somos Ajenos" and "Elemento" achieving widespread acclaim. Their subsequent albums, Proaño (2014) and Imperfecto Extraño (2017), further solidified their status as a leading rock band in Mexico.
In 2020, Enjambre released Próximos Prójimos, followed by the live album Noches de Salón in 2023, recorded at the historic Salón Los Ángeles in Mexico City. The album was praised for blending classic hits with new material, demonstrating the band's ability to evolve while honoring their roots.
Recent Work and Lineup Changes
After guitarist Javier Mejía left the band in 2021, Enjambre introduced new members, including Roger Dávila of Comisario Pantera and their cousin Isaac Navejas. The band released the EP Ambrosia in 2021, which featured the English-language single "DeLorean."
In 2024, they released another EP, Torna Noches de Salón, featuring acoustic versions of past hits and a new track, "Danzón Nereidas." The band continues to tour extensively, with plans for a major concert at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City and an upcoming tour in the United States.
