Biography
Aitana Ocaña Morales (born June 27, 1999), known professionally as Aitana, is a Spanish singer, actress, and songwriter. She gained widespread recognition in 2017 as the runner-up on the Spanish reality television talent competition Operación Triunfo. During her time on the show, Aitana recorded the single "Lo Malo" with fellow contestant Ana Guerra. The song quickly became a hit in Spain, debuting at number one and maintaining its position for several weeks. Following her success on the show, Aitana signed a record deal with Universal Music and released her debut solo single "Teléfono," which achieved commercial success and set streaming records.
Aitana's debut studio album, Spoiler (2019), was well-received and earned a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album. The accompanying tour, which took her to many venues across Spain, was documented in the video album Play Tour: En Directo. In late 2020, she released her second album, 11 Razones, which included the top-five singles "+ (Más)" featuring Cali y El Dandee, and "Corazón Sin Vida" featuring Sebastián Yatra. Often referred to as the "Spanish Princess of Pop," Aitana has achieved significant success in her home country, with four number-one singles: "Lo Malo," "Teléfono," "Vas a Quedarte," and "Mon Amour." She has received numerous awards, including a Premio Ondas, two Premios Odeón, five LOS40 Music Awards, a Radio Disney Music Award, an MTV Europe Music Award, and a Kids' Choice Award, among others. Aitana has also been nominated for two Latin Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist. Additionally, she served as an assessor on season six of La Voz Kids in 2021 and as a coach on seasons seven and eight in 2022 and 2023.
Early Life Aitana Ocaña Morales was born in Barcelona on June 27, 1999, the only child of Cosme Ocaña and Belén Morales. She grew up in Viladecans and later moved to Sant Climent de Llobregat at the age of nine. In 2014, Aitana began sharing cover versions of popular songs on YouTube, and that same year, she released her first original songs.
In 2017, after completing bachillerato, she was admitted to study design at university. Following her entrance exams, she visited Madrid, where she auditioned for Operación Triunfo. She was selected to participate in the ninth season of the competition, which marked the beginning of her career in the music industry.
Career 2017–2018: Operación Triunfo and Early Releases
Aitana joined Operación Triunfo in October 2017 and finished as the show's runner-up after over three months of competition. During the show, she competed to represent Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 with two songs: "Arde," performed solo, and "Lo Malo," a duet with Ana Guerra. Although "Lo Malo" did not win the selection, it became a massive hit in Spain, topping the charts for five non-consecutive weeks and earning 5× platinum certification.
Following the show, Aitana embarked on a co-headlining tour with her Operación Triunfo castmates from March to December 2018, performing 23 dates to nearly 300,000 attendees. In July 2018, she released her debut solo single "Teléfono," which topped the Spanish charts for six consecutive weeks and was certified four times platinum. The song was included in her debut extended play, Tráiler (2018), which featured six original songs, including a collaboration with Lele Pons. The EP's second single, "Vas a Quedarte," became her third number-one hit in Spain and earned a nomination for Best Spanish Song at the 2019 LOS40 Music Awards.
2019-2020: Spoiler and 11 Razones
In 2019, Aitana began promoting her debut studio album, Spoiler, which was released in June. The album debuted at number one on the Spanish charts, was certified Gold in its first week, and received a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album. Aitana supported the album with her first concert tour, the Play Tour, which ran from June to December 2019 and included 27 shows. The tour was extended in 2020, but the additional dates were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Aitana's second studio album, 11 Razones, was released in December 2020, showcasing a shift towards early 2000s pop rock. The album debuted at number two on the Spanish charts and later peaked at number one. The album's singles, including "+ (Más)" and "Corazón Sin Vida," achieved significant commercial success.
2021-present: Acting Ventures and Alpha
In 2021, Aitana continued to release new music, including the feminist anthem "Ni Una Más." Her collaboration with Zzoilo on the remix of "Mon Amour" became a major hit, reaching number one in Spain. Aitana also ventured into acting, starring in the Disney+ series La Última and contributing to its soundtrack. In 2023, she released her third studio album, Alpha, which featured singles such as "Los Ángeles," "Las Babys," and "miamor" with Rels B.
