Biography

Juan Fernando Fonseca Carrera, professionally known as Fonseca, is a Colombian singer and songwriter born on May 29, 1979, in Bogotá. His passion for music emerged early in life, leading him to study at prestigious institutions like Javeriana University in Bogotá and Berklee College of Music in Boston. Fonseca made his debut in the Colombian music scene with his self-titled album, which garnered significant attention locally. His second album, Corazón (2005), marked a turning point, blending pop and rock influences with traditional Colombian genres like vallenato, bullerengue, and tambora.

Fonseca continued to build on his success with albums like Gratitud (2008) and Ilusión (2011), solidifying his reputation as a versatile artist. In 2013, he recorded Sinfónico in collaboration with the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia, further showcasing his musical range. His achievements have been recognized with multiple awards, including seven Latin Grammys. Notably, in 2015, Fonseca received the La Musa Premio Triunfador from the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Contemporary Icon Award at the SESAC Latina Music Awards. That same year, he released Conexión, featuring collaborations with prominent artists like Juanes and Victor Manuelle.

Fonseca's 2018 album, Agustín, named after his youngest son, earned four nominations at the 20th Annual Latin Grammy Awards. His contributions to music and his efforts in promoting reconciliation and peace in Colombia were recognized when he received the "Orden de Boyacá en grado Oficial," one of the highest honors awarded by the Colombian government.

Throughout his career, Fonseca has remained dedicated to highlighting the positive aspects of Colombia through his music. His work with initiatives like Marca Colombia and his partnership with Avianca Airlines during his U.S. tour in 2013 exemplify his commitment to promoting his homeland. Fonseca is married to Juliana Posada, his childhood sweetheart, and they have three children.
