Biography
Crystal Fighters are a British-Spanish electronic music band known for their eclectic sound, which fuses elements of folk, dance, and indie music. Formed in 2007, the band originated from London, England, but their style has been heavily influenced by Basque culture, with their early music inspired by traditional folk instruments and themes from northern Spain. The group initially consisted of members Sebastian Pringle, Gilbert Vierich, and Graham Dickson, who were later joined by percussionist Andrea Marongiu and Spanish singer Mimi Borelli.
The band gained early recognition with their debut album Star of Love in 2010, which combined energetic electronic beats with folk-inspired melodies and the use of traditional Basque instruments such as the txalaparta, a wooden percussion instrument. Songs like "Plage" and "At Home" helped establish Crystal Fighters as a distinctive voice in the music scene, blending electronic dance music with a raw, organic sound.
Their second album, Cave Rave (2013), continued to explore the band's genre-defying style, while their third album, Everything Is My Family (2016), took a more expansive and celebratory approach, embracing a broader range of musical influences from around the world. The band is also known for its dynamic live performances, which are characterized by a highly energetic atmosphere and vivid stage presence.
In 2014, tragedy struck with the sudden passing of Andrea Marongiu, but the band chose to continue in his memory. Crystal Fighters have maintained a reputation for positivity and optimism, which they express through their music and message. Over the years, they have performed at major festivals worldwide and have remained a notable act within the indie and electronic music scenes. Their music continues to evolve, reflecting a commitment to experimentation and cultural fusion.
