La Nuit des Étoiles has cancelled its 2026 edition less than three weeks before it was due to open in Le Folgoët, in the Finistère department of Brittany. The festival had been scheduled to run from Friday, August 14 to Sunday, August 16, but organisers announced on July 30 that they had been unable to secure all the conditions and administrative permissions necessary to begin building the site within the required timetable.
In a statement published on social media, the team described the decision as one taken with “profound sadness”, distress and disappointment. The festival president stressed that the cancellation was not caused by a lack of effort or commitment, but by the impossibility of bringing together the essential organisational conditions in time. According to the organisers, the absence of the necessary administrative authorisations meant that installation work could not start as planned, making it impossible to guarantee the required standards of safety, quality and operational stability.
The cancellation removes a broad, mainstream programme designed to appeal to several generations. Friday, August 14 was to feature French pop and urban artists Keblack, Carbonne and Luiza, alongside electronic project Sound of Legend. Saturday’s bill was led by Ridsa and Helena, while Sunday had been conceived as a large 1980s-themed finale with the touring production Stars 80 Forever.
The planned programme reflected the festival’s family-oriented identity, moving between French rap, radio pop, electronic dance music and nostalgia. Luiza, a Franco-Brazilian artist whose music blends chanson, reggae and Latin influences, had been among the acts highlighted when the full poster was presented. Ridsa and Keblack represented the more commercially successful side of contemporary French urban pop, while Carbonne had emerged as one of the newer names on the national scene. Sound of Legend was expected to provide the festival’s main dance-oriented set, before Stars 80 Forever closed the weekend with a live celebration of familiar hits from the decade.
La Nuit des Étoiles had originally been held in nearby Trégarantec before moving to Le Folgoët in 2024. The relocation was accompanied by a significant expansion: the event grew from two days to three and abandoned its biennial rhythm in favour of becoming an annual festival. The organisers had invested in adapting the new location, installing infrastructure and strengthening technical and security arrangements, but they had already acknowledged financial pressure in late 2025 and announced that the cost of the 2026 line-up would need to be reduced.
Those changes appear to have left the association facing a difficult combination of higher structural costs, a more demanding annual production cycle and unresolved administrative requirements. The organisers said they had spent months working with the relevant authorities and seeking alternatives, but ultimately concluded that the festival could no longer proceed “in conditions of safety, serenity and quality”.
The cancellation is particularly abrupt because the official festival website and ticketing services were still promoting the eighth edition as a three-day event shortly before the announcement. The programme had been presented as an accessible, intergenerational series of summer concerts at the Le Folgoët site, with camping and other visitor facilities also planned.
Ticket holders are now waiting for information on reimbursements. The association has said that details concerning purchased tickets will be communicated shortly, but no full refund procedure had been published at the time of the cancellation announcement.
For northern Finistère, the decision means the loss of one of the area’s principal mid-August music gatherings. For the organising association, it also raises questions about whether La Nuit des Étoiles can return in another format, at a different site or with a more sustainable schedule after an expansion that ultimately proved too difficult to complete in 2026.
Organisers said they could no longer guarantee the conditions required for a safe and properly authorised event.
