Demonstrations against the imprisonment of rapper Pablo Hasél

The Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalunya police, have arrested the rapper Pablo Hasél at the University of Lleida, where he had been locked up to avoid arrest. The musician has been sentenced to prison by the Spanish National Court for the content of the lyrics of his songs. He had a deadline to enter prison voluntarily until Friday, February 12, which he did not want to do to consider the sentence unfair, and serve the sentence of 9 months and one day for exaltation of terrorism and injuries to the Spanish crown.

Amnesty International has described the prison sentence as "unfair and disproportionate", noting that Hasel "could be one of the first rappers in Europe to go to prison for saying what he thinks" and demanding that "crimes of exaltation of terrorism, insults against the crown and state institutions and offenses against religious sentiments must disappear from the Penal Code” in Spain.

Civil society has mobilized against the artist's imprisonment, the Freedom Pablo Hasél Platform has been established, and demonstrations have been called at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 16: in Plaça Lesseps in Barcelona, ​​in Plaça Mayor of Castellón de la Plana, in the Plaza Barcelona of Tortosa, in the Plaza de la Catedral of Lleida, in the Plaza del Ajuntament of Vilassar de Mar, in the Raval de Montserrat of Terrassa, in the Plaza del Castillo of Pamplona, ​​in the Statue of the Nudes of Tarragona, in the Plaza 1 de Octubre in Girona, in the Zona del Escudo of Alameda (Málaga), in the Plaza Major of Villarreal, in the Plaza del Ajuntament of Calella, in the Plaza de Sant Roc of Sabadell , in the Plaza de los Oms of La Seu d'Urgell, in the Plaza Major of Vic, in the Plaza Nova of Palafrugell, in the Banyoles Town Hall, in the Plaza Major of La Bisbal, in the Plaza 1 de Octubre of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, in the Mercadal square of Reus, in the plaça Major of Figueres, in the Courts of Olot, in the Porxada of Granollers and in the Lluís Millet square in Sant Cugat del Vallès.

Another demonstration in support of Hasél will take place on Sunday 21 February in Bilbao at 12:30 pm (February 21, Sunday).
