Eufònic, an electronic mirage in the Ebro river

What do you know about San Carlos de la Rapita apart from rice or black fly bites? It turns out that this population of Delta del Ebro is the base camp of a small and very insteresting festival of experimental electronic music.

The Eufònic Festival –which means in greek ‘nice to ear’- is one of those little musical miracles scattered through Catalonia. A sound event in an unexpected place as could be also the case of Aphònica in Banyoles or Maldaltura in Llesui.

The event is now in its fourth edition and its full name is Visual Arts & Sound in the Ebro Country. It will be held from 3th to 6th September in San Carlos de la Rapita and surroundings as mountain Foradada or Ullals of Baltasar (rafts near the village) as well as towns like Amposta, Tortosa, Miravet and Ulldecona. An attempt to separate the duo concert-hall and sound experiences and expand them, for example, on an excursion to the highest point of the Montsià mountains, in abandoned factories, which take place in the digital investigators MobilityLab at MónNatura Delta or in a more conventional picnic- vermouth.

The show that will open the festival will mix music and dance starring Montgomery Experience, the new band project with Miguel Marin (Arbol), with the dance company of Teresa Navarrete, on the beach of San Carlos de la Rapita

In addition to performances of Salfumán (Sandra Rapulp’s project) with Maria Rodés in Nova Church or the La Ràpita’s Garbi Park with Hidrogenesse , Innercut, Tiger Menja Zebra, beGun, Pedro Vian or Fxmovement, the festival makes place for minority performances as those presented at the Mercat Vell with Tonje Alice Madsen & Camilla Vatne Barratt-Due, Joan Martí-Frasquier, Combray with Alba G. Corral’s visuals, Ruben Patino, Sergi Faustino, 'Concert for effort and sound', LCC ( Las CasiCasiotone) among other actions. Meneo will star the final show in El Xiringuito de la Costa with a tast of mussels.

Another important part of the festival is learning. This year the Campus begins its journey  learning through workshops. It spans from construct a synthesizer in six hours to circuit bending, visual creation or digital interaction with Lluïsa Espigolé, beGun, Alfredo Costa Monteiro or Casper Electronics.

Spread in different spaces, art installations will be an important part of the festival. Playmodes has installed one on the Templar castle of Miravet, called 'light Miravet' and will be released on August 22th and will be open until September 6, which combines video projection mapping technology and digital creativity so that dialogue with the monument offering a new narrative in the imposing medieval architectural. The walls will be filled with ‘life’ through a swarm of light and sound bodies.

Other works to be able to see and listen will be the Xavi Lloses instrument and sound 'Nautilus' sculpture at the School of Art and Design of Tortosa, the work of Jan Mech in Ulldecona’s Old Mill or sound machines Bosch & Simons at the Ebro Sea Museum on San Carlos de la Rapita.
