Concerts in Barcelona and the metropolitan area punched again by coronavirus

Barcelona and part of its metropolitan area goes back to phase 2 of de-escalation. The Government of the Generalitat has decreed the suspension for 15 days - when approved by a judge and published in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat de Catalunya (DOGC) - of sporting events and the closing of theaters, cinemas, 50 percent capacity for restaurants, nightlife establishments and sports centers among other places in Barcelona and part of its metropolitan area: L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Badalona, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Montcada i Reixach, Cornellà de Llobregat, Sant Boi de Llobregat, Esplugues de Llobregat, Sant Adrià del Besòs, Sant Joan Despí, Sant Just Desvern, Viladecans and El Prat de Llobregat.

The Generalitat has asked the citizens - recommendation, not prohibition - not to leave their homes if it is not absolutely essential and not to move to second homes. The outbreak in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat has set off all the alarms, it is the town with one of the highest population densities in Europe, comparable to that of Asian cities such as Manila, being therefore a place with enormous potential for the spread of the coronavirus. Likewise, a new increase in hospital admissions has been observed because Covid-19.

The Concerts Venues Association of Catalunya has started a campaign on social media, pointing out that the concert halls are not the origin of the outbreak since most are closed and those that are not, maintain rigorous scruple by the health ordinance, with a minimum capacity and for “musical militancy”.

Sant Boi City Council has already announced the cancellation of its Viu l’Estiu outdoor activities program, which included concerts, movies or comedy. The programming of open-air concerts in Barcelona such as the Cruïlla XXS, the Parc del Fòrum, the Jardins de Pedralbes, Poble Espanyol, Monumental Club, Festival Grec ... They have not yet been cancelled but Authorities  are studying whether they will continue as Meritxell Budó has pointed out , spokesman for the Govern. What has been cancelled with total security is the new date for Sant Jordi street book party, scheduled for July 23 since Government recommend not leaving home if it is not for work, buying basic things or for reasons of force majeure.
