Oasis Reunites in Cardiff: First Reunion Show Draws Global Crowd

Liam and Noel Gallagher return to stage together after 16 years apart

🗞️ Published: 5 July 2025 · Updated: 5 July 2025

Oasis officially began their long-anticipated reunion tour Friday night with a sold-out performance at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, drawing over 70,000 attendees. This marked the first time Liam and Noel Gallagher shared the stage since the band’s abrupt split in 2009.

The concert opened at 8:15 p.m., following support sets by Britpop contemporaries Cast and Richard Ashcroft. Fans had begun queuing outside the venue the previous day. According to Cardiff Council estimates, the two-night event is expected to bring nearly £27 million in economic impact to the Welsh capital.

The Gallaghers walked on stage arm in arm, starting the set with Hello, the opening track from What’s the Story Morning Glory?, and continued with a sequence of their most recognizable hits. The setlist leaned heavily on the band’s 1990s catalogue, including Morning Glory, Supersonic, Wonderwall, and Champagne Supernova. Only one song, Little By Little from 2002’s Heathen Chemistry, represented their later albums.

Liam Gallagher’s vocal performance drew particular praise, with many fans noting his voice was at its strongest in decades. Noel Gallagher took lead vocals on several songs mid-set, including Talk Tonight, Half the World Away, and Little By Little. The pair largely avoided direct interaction during the show, aside from a brief onstage pat on the back.

Founding member Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs joined the band on rhythm guitar. Arthurs, a key figure in the group’s early years, has recovered from a cancer diagnosis in 2022. The live lineup also included bassist Andy Bell, guitarist Gem Archer, and American drummer Joey Waronker.

The concert included tributes to Portuguese footballer Diogo Jota, who died earlier in the week. Cast dedicated Walkaway to him during their set, and Oasis displayed his image during Live Forever.

Liam Gallagher’s occasional crowd banter drew mixed reactions. He was briefly booed after jokingly asking if anyone in the audience was from Manchester or Burnage. He continued without acknowledging the heckling. Later, he referenced the controversy over ticket pricing by asking the crowd, “Is it worth the £4,000 you paid for a ticket?”

Noel Gallagher acknowledged younger attendees during the encore, stating, “This one is for all the people in their twenties who have never seen us before and kept this going for 20 years,” before launching into The Masterplan.

The 23-song set closed with Don’t Look Back in Anger, Wonderwall, and Champagne Supernova. The band exited without additional remarks.

The Cardiff performances are the first stops on a 17-date UK tour, which will continue in London, Manchester, and Edinburgh before moving on to North America, Asia, and South America. Dublin will mark the final European stop before the international leg begins.

No announcements were made regarding additional dates or future recordings.
