The Fira Mediterrània de Manresa 2025: A Tribute to Creativity and Grassroots Arts

A vibrant showcase of tradition, innovation, and cultural diversity in Manresa.

🗞️ Published: 18 September 2025 · Updated: 18 September 2025

From October 9 to 12, Manresa will transform into the epicenter of traditional and contemporary arts with the celebration of the 28th edition of Fira Mediterrània, an event that reaffirms its role as a creative engine for cultural expressions with deep roots. Featuring a program of 78 performances, 54 of which are premieres, the festival solidifies its commitment to artistic innovation and the promotion of emerging talent.

A Creative Fair with Deep Roots
This year's theme, "Creativity", reflects the festival's central axis: contemporary creation inspired by cultural tradition. This approach aligns with the fifth anniversary of the Obrador d’Arrel, a program supported by the Direcció General de Cultura Popular i Associacionisme Cultural and the festival itself. This initiative has supported artists through all stages of their creative process, fostering a vibrant ecosystem for root-based arts. In fact, 35% of the official program (27 proposals) is directly linked to the Obrador, highlighting its impact on the Catalan cultural scene.

The opening performance, "Pa", by Menorcan artist Anna Ferrer, exemplifies this philosophy. Born in the Obrador d’Arrel, this production explores the ritual of familial occupational transmission through music and stage storytelling.

A Musical Journey Through Catalonia, the Mediterranean, and the Balkans
Music takes center stage in the programming, with 44 musical performances spanning from the Catalan scene to Mediterranean and Balkan sounds. Among the most anticipated names are Magalí Sare, presenting her project "Descasada", based on songs about abused women; Maria del Mar Bonet, who will open the festival with a special concert at the Kursaal; and Alosa, a female duo and winner of the Concurso Sons de la Mediterrània 2024.

The international focus of this edition is on the Balkans, a region whose musical diversity will be represented by artists such as Ekrem Mamutovic, leader of a Roma fanfare band, and Božo Vrećo, known for his modern interpretation of sevdah, a traditional Balkan genre. Also featured is the young Greek artist Melina Vlachos, who fuses Eastern and pop influences.

Dance, Theater, and Circus: A Multidisciplinary Festival
Beyond music, Fira Mediterrània offers a wide range of artistic disciplines. Dance will shine with performances like "Tierras Raras", a flamenco and aerial dance proposal by the company Sacude, transforming the Plaça de la Música into a unique stage. Additionally, theater and circus will explore memory and oral tradition with projects like those by La Baldufa or Cia. Voël, which will close the festival with "Immaterial", a tribute to the country’s intangible heritage.

The Street as the Main Stage
Another hallmark of the Fira is its commitment to bringing art to the streets. Iconic squares such as Plaça Major, Plaça de la Música, and Pati del Kursaal will host large-format performances, participatory dances, and family-friendly proposals. This approach seeks to democratize access to culture and connect with diverse audiences.

New Talent and Off-Spaces
The Fira also dedicates spaces to emerging scenes. The Concurs Sons de la Mediterrània, organized by Enderrock, and off-stage performances will provide opportunities for young artists like Huialfàs, Algarada, and Goig, recipients of the Programa de Suport a la Creació.

A Celebration of Popular Culture
With a budget of €1,389,000, Fira Mediterrània is not only an artistic showcase but also a strategic market for the cultural sector. Artistic director Jordi Fosas emphasizes that the fair acts as "a link in the chain of creation," connecting artists, associations, and audiences in continuous dialogue.

Manresa prepares to welcome thousands of visitors to an event that celebrates tradition while keeping an eye on innovation. With its blend of deep roots and forward-looking perspectives, Fira Mediterrània 2025 promises to be an unforgettable experience.
